yiyχmɛštəm qʷaqʷtəm – Willow Creek Stewardship
Stream and wetland restoration on χʷɛmaɬkʷu lands for climate adaptation and resilience
yiyχmɛštəm qʷaqʷtəm means “we will take care of the creek” in our ?ayʔaǰuθɛm language.
Restoration of streams and wetlands will result in reduced risk to communities from climate related disasters and protect cultural and ecological resources by ensuring clean water and enhancing wildlife habitat, especially for salmon.
Anticipated long-term outcomes are adequate drainage and water crossing infrastructure anticipating climate change, development and use of land in order to optimize community benefits and minimizing risks, and thriving waterways of high natural and cultural value.
